South African Police Nab Two Women Over Truck Hijacking in Northern Cape

 


In a fresh crackdown on crime, the South African Police Service (SAPS) has arrested two women accused of hijacking a tipper truck in the Northern Cape.

According to a statement released on Thursday, April 24, 2025, the 29-year-old driver and her 22-year-old accomplice allegedly seized the truck near Winsorton.

The arrest was part of Operation #OKaeMolao, a coordinated multi-agency operation aimed at tackling serious crimes across the country. Police officials confirmed that the tipper truck was recovered during a roadblock operation along Kliprivier Road.

“The driver, aged 29, and her 22-year-old assistant were taken into custody. During overnight operations targeting wanted suspects across the Gauteng province, over 900 individuals were arrested for crimes ranging from murder and attempted murder to armed robbery, assault, and gender-based violence offenses,” the SAPS statement read.

Authorities have pledged to intensify efforts across all provinces to track down more criminal networks ahead of the upcoming national holiday period, ensuring safer communities for all South Africans.
